The tongue will be purplish and the pulse deep and tight. This is a tonic variation of the traditional Chai Hu Shu Gan Tang Formula, translated as "Liver-Coursing Powder," which is one of Chinese Medicine's first formulas for regulating the wood and earth elements respectively, and remains a fundamental base formula for treating binding depression of Liver Qi.

Traditional Function: Regulates Qi, disperses stagnated liver Qi in the Middle Jiao (Food Retention), activates blood circulation and relieves pain.
